Brian Tickle has been involved in education
since 1963. He graduated from University of New England, NSW, Australia with a
Bachelor of Arts. He has worked as a
classroom teacher and Training and Development Officer. He was a Mathematics
Education Consultant for the New South Wales Department of Education and
Training, Australia from 1996-2003. Since 2003 he has worked as an independent
mathematics education consultant helping teachers, students and parents to
improve student learning outcomes in mathematics in Australia, Papua New
Guinea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Bulgaria, Canada and USA. Brian has presented
sessions at NCTM Conferences in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 and NCSM in 2009.
Brian has co-authored the following books
for children and teachers in mathematics education. These books are used in
Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Canada and USA.

- Go Maths NSW (2007)
- DecaCards A Real Hands-on Approach to Teaching Place Value (sole author)

He has also authored articles on the
teaching of mathematics which have been published in Square One (NSW), Reflections
(NSW), Australian Primary Mathematics
Teacher (Australia) and Curriculum
Support (a journal of the NSW Department of Education and Training).
Brian has spent over thirty years as a
classroom teacher (1963-1995). He continues to teach modelled lessons for up to
100 observing teachers at a time in his role as a mathematics education
consultant.
Brian is a member of several organizations
which include the following:

- National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (USA)
- Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers
- Mathematics Association of NSW
Brian lives in Taree, New South Wales,
Australia with his wife, Joy.
